John Zerga

for Fremont County Sheriff

Steady Leadership. Local Values.

Born Here. Raised Here. Ready to Serve.

John Zerga has spent most of his 57 years calling Fremont County home. Born at Bishop Randall Hospital in Lander, raised in these communities, and shaped by decades of local law enforcement experience — John knows this county, its people, and the responsibility that comes with serving them.

It would be an honor to serve as your next Sheriff. I respectfully ask for your support in 2026.

About John

John Zerga is a career law enforcement professional with over two decades of service to Fremont County. A graduate of Lander Valley High School and the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy (1999), John began his career as a seasonal park ranger at Boysen State Park before returning home to the Fremont County Sheriff's Office — where he has served ever since.

Over the years, John has advanced through every level of the organization: patrol deputy, detective sergeant, patrol sergeant, and for the past seven years, lieutenant. He has worked the road, led investigations, supervised deputies, managed budgets, and overseen operations across all divisions of the Sheriff's Office.

That experience isn't just a résumé — it's a foundation.

John and his wife have made Fremont County their home, and he brings to this race not only professional depth, but a genuine love for the communities he has spent his career protecting.

Your Voice 〰️ Your Safety 〰️ Your Sheriff 〰️

““I have always had a strong desire to help my community — to resolve conflicts with fairness and justice, and to protect and serve those who live here. I feel a deep responsibility to help anyone in need.
I believe that a Sheriff’s Office built on shared values, strong ethics, and genuine accountability becomes a place where people want to work — and a place the community can trust.
I don’t believe in making promises I can’t keep. I believe in honesty, follow-through, and leading by example.
Through my faith, I’ve asked God to place me where I am needed most. I believe that place is here.
It would be an honor to serve as your next Sheriff.””

Priorities

What John Stands For

Upholding the Constitution John pledges to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the laws of Wyoming, providing fair, ethical, and professional leadership grounded in accountability and transparency.

Supporting Deputies and Staff Every position in the Sheriff's Office matters. John is committed to ensuring all personnel have the training, equipment, and leadership they deserve.

Public Safety and Crime Prevention Keeping Fremont County safe remains the top priority — including strong support for victims and continued investment in crime prevention efforts.

Strengthening Communications and Detention John will advocate for proper staffing, modern equipment, and updated technology for the Communications Center and Detention Center — recognizing how vital these divisions are to both public and officer safety.

Community Relationships and Collaboration No agency can do this job alone. John is committed to building and maintaining strong partnerships with neighboring agencies, tribal law enforcement, and community organizations across the county.

Fiscal Responsibility John plans to actively pursue federal grant funding and work closely with the Fremont County Commissioners to secure the resources deputies need — without unnecessary burden on taxpayers.

An Open Door John commits to remaining accessible to every resident, from every corner of Fremont County, and to listening with fairness, dignity, and respect.

Family

John and his wife, Larado, have been married since 2004 and are, by their own account, best friends first. Their partnership has been a steady anchor through every chapter of John's career — from his early days patrolling Dubois to his years of leadership with the Fremont County Sheriff's Office. Together they have built a life rooted in this community

John and Larado are proud parents of three children — Jessica Zerga, Megan Reed, and David Ruff — and the proud grandparents of three grandchildren, Beaux, Tru, and Zilly.
